From the first time he descended the escalator and stepped onto the political stage (June 2015) Trump.45 has repeatedly denigrated and defamed our immediate southern neighbors in Mexico. He railed against rapists, drug dealers, human traffickers, gang members, and I presume, a few good people. That was before the hordes of migrant caravans and imminent invasion he made up in time for the 2018 midterm elections, to goose his believers.
As jingoistic and false as these proclamations were and are, Trump.45 continues to trumpet them to his receptive base even today. The entirely phony construct of a Great Beautiful Wall to protect America from their dirty intrusion was a sham and foolish distraction, then and now.
God has a way of readjusting misalignments eventually, but often the results are slow to reveal.
The fast-paced novel corona virus (COVID-19) currently seizing our collective attention is not one of them.
Trump.45 brays about the US perfect response and plan to contain the virus and keep America great, while America is First. Hollow echo chambers sounds vibrate in the ether.
Virus Don’t Care. Virus Don’t Scare.
How about a 3-month gut check about how Dirty Benighted Mexico is doing compared to Trump Land? The unfake news is not so comforting.
As of March 7, 2020 Mexico, has 7 Covid-19 cases among its 127.15 million residents. That is a diagnosed case rate of 0.06 per million. In shorthand about 1 in 15 million. The US, on the other hand, had 428 cases yesterday evening and a case rate of 1.3 per million.
Straight up comparison, viral apples to apples. The US diagnosed corona case rate today is proportionally 22 times worse than in Mexico. And the US has 61 times as many actual patients infected with coronavirus to care for than Dirty Nasty Mexico. Just yesterday the US found 14 times more cases in 24 hours, than are present in all of Mexico after 3 months of viral transmission.
There have been 17 recognized US deaths from Covid-19 so far, and none in Mexico. You can’t even compute a comparative ratio for those numbers, it’s too large. But you could say that the US has 2.5 times as many coronavirus Deaths as Mexico has Total Infections during the past three months. My, my, my Delilah.
I don’t think God actually laughs at human foolishness, but he might curl his upper lip in the tiniest of sneers once in a while at the more egregious examples. ¡Viva Mexico for doing a fair job so far at controlling corona viral spread.
Will Trump.45 be chastened or slowed in his mad drive to dismantle any remaining public health credibility for his Administration, the White House, and his compliant public health top toadies?
Doubtful, but stay tuned.
